Role:
Reporting to the SVP Chief Lending Officer, this management position is responsible for developing and managing the commercial loan portfolio as well as directing and managing operations of the Business Services Team. As an integral part of the management team, VP Business Services will be involved in strategic decisions concerning loan procurement, underwriting and recommendation, product development, staff structuring, and expansion of the commercial lending function. This position oversees the preparation of underwriting documents and presentations to the MBL (Member Business Loan) Committee for review and approval as well as presenting periodic updates to the Board of Directors.
With support from Business Development, this position will also be responsible for contacting businesses and corporations to determine need for business services and loans within their operations. The VP Business Services will actively participate in public relations activities within the community that will promote the credit union and its services.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
E 50% Procurement of commercial business relationships including solicitation for new loans and deposits, underwriting and documentation either internally or via Texas Business Lenders Group (CUSO) and closing of commercial loans.
E 30% Oversees department operations and work of the Business Services Team; evaluates, reviews, and recommends to management compensation adjustments or disciplinary action.
E 15% Participates in public relations activities including active involvement in chamber of commerce within our service areas, service club participation, entertainment of existing and prospective business clients, and overall involvement in community activities that will promote the credit union and credit union services. This area could also include serving on credit union legislative committees and maintaining relationships with local, State and National elected officials.
N 5% Performs other duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
1. Maintains a high degree of professionalism as a front-line representative of the credit union in public and corporate environments.
2. Oversees committees and personnel working in business services.
3. Responsible for the profitability of member business service operations.
4. Maintains strong relationships with local community, political and business leaders that can contribute to the ongoing success of credit union operations.
5. Serves in positions of leadership in local community organizations where appropriate.
6. Demonstrates an understanding of, and follows the requirements of all regulation compliance, including but not limited to those of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Member Due Diligence (MDD) as it specifically relates to their job functions. Employee shall be trained annually in BSA/AML compliance.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience:
Eight to ten years of similar or related experience.
Education:
(1) A college degree (BS or BA in a relevant field), or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).
Interpersonal Skills:
Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
Other Skills:
Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft and other computer applications to include: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Demonstrates the ability to apply knowledge of consumer protection laws and regulations and applicable state and federal credit union rules and regulations.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. Specific vision abilities required of this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus
Work Environment:
Work is performed indoors with some potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to electronics work. May require periodic travel. There is exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as robbery. Employees are to receive detailed instructions and procedures to follow in order to minimize risk.
