Role:
The Senior Accountant will serve as a lead position for the accounting department and will be relied on to provide accounting direction to the Staff Accountant I and II. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities.
Responsibilities entail preparing financial reporting including financial statements, board reports, NCUA 5300 Call Report and ad hoc accounting report. The Senior Accountant will also maintain and reconcile the general ledger to ensure proper accounting for investments, mortgage and business lending, accruals, fixed assets, allowance for loan loss and month end processing. The Senior Accountant will work with the Accounting Manager to tackle new and complex accounting issues and make recommendations to the Controller. Adheres to all policies, procedures, State Laws and Regulations.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
25% Prepares internal and external financial reporting including financial statements, board reports, NCUA 5300 Call Report.
25% Accurately accounts for fixed assets, accruals, allowance for loan loss, business and real estate lending, and investments. Completes month end journal entries and reconciliations by assigned due date.
15% Responsible for managing the monthly download process to Profitstar and producing accurate financial statements and ad hoc financial reports as needed.
10% Completes various ad hoc project assignments to support strategic mission of the organization.
10% Responsible for the supporting audits such as the annual Regulatory Exam, Opinion Audit and other compliance audits that rely on the accounting team to provide support and reports.
5% Obtains and maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
5% Provides support and guidance to other team members and other departments.
5% Performs other duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
1. Meets all deadlines, with minimal errors and no errors that result in financial loss to the credit union.
2. Ensures all assigned general ledger accounts are appropriately maintained, reconciled and in balance.
3. Maintains high quality of internal service to the credit union staff and members.
4. Keeps the Accounting Manager/Controller informed regarding key operating issues timely.
5. Meets all expectations with normal management and minimum oversight from the Accounting Manager/Controller.
6. Demonstrates an understanding of, and follow the requirements of all regulation compliance, including but not limited to those of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Member Due Diligence (MDD) as it specifically relates to their job functions. Employee shall be trained annually in BSA/AML compliance.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience
Three years to five years of similar or related experience.
Education
Bachelors Degree with a concentration in Accounting or Finance.
Interpersonal Skills
Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
Other Skills
Proficient with spreadsheets and word processing software. Understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Able to learn new software quickly. Experience in ProfitStar and Jack Henrt a plus.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. Specific vision abilities required of this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
Work is performed indoors with some potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to electronics work. May require periodic travel. There is exposure to potential hazardous conditions such as robbery. Employees are to receive detailed instructions and procedures to follow in order to minimize risk.
